I took more interesting shots today (the others are over on flickr, as usual), but this one summed up my day best. The folded, manically stapled corner of a piece of homework on my to be graded pile.

On second thought, I'll add a

Is that Golgotha on the bottom one? What is it etched on? A paperweight? It's a really cool shot, in any case.

As far as the maniacally stapled papers goes, hey count yourself lucky that you at least get stapled papers. I rant about the importance of stapling their damned essays together and I still get a bunch where they've just folded the corners together. It used to drive me crazy, but now I just shrug and figure if I lose pages of their essay, that's their problem.

hehe - actually it's just a paperweight/paper holder - you put a piece of paper in the slot and it'll stand up so you can copy it.

I'm also ashamed that I had to google 'Golgotha.' My cultural knowledge fails me again!

I *love* the staples . . . taking photos of everyday objects and highlighting them in a way that makes them less ordinary . . . terrific!

Oh, and staples on student papers? I used to say that "staples are their [students'] friends," but that didn't help. I just bought a stapler and carry it with when there are paper due. :-(

One more note that it's really really fun to say google golgotha over and over again. Try it.

Can I be really dumb and ask how you did that with the laser pointer?

I put the camera on a tripod, pointed it at the wall and turned out the lights(focus on the wall before you turn out the lights :)) Then pick a longish exposure - I think the "overread" needed about 7 seconds. Click the shutter and draw on the wall. Fun for one and all!

i just love the photo of the staples, the macro work is great, and you really captured an element of frustration in the photo!

I love the maniacally stapled paper corner.

I am always asking my students NOT to staple their papers, but too often they don't listen ....
